Russell and Pat Allen
Millington, Tennessee
The Allens started their jungle (her words) over 20 years ago with Albo Marginata and Hyacinthina. Three years ago Pat's friend Dotty gave her a Golden Tiara and invited her to a hosta meeting. It was love at first sight. The garden now has over a 100 varieties of hostas, but isn't limited to just hostas. Pat has hundreds of daylilies and companion plants.
Pat said Sum and Substance is taking over the house and the Cinnamon Fern loves the air conditioner drip. Guacamole and Striptease really loved the cool wet spring we had. Great Expectations is still expecting after three years. Plantaginea grows huge in pots or in the ground. Some of Pat's hostas tips include Royal Standard is really dark if grown in complete shade. Frances Williams is pretty in a row. Valentine Lace is one of the few she leaves to bloom. Grow new hostas in containers the first year or two, they are guaranteed to get huge.
